1. Is the University of Science, VNU-HCM a public or private university?

The University of Science, VNU-HCM is a public university, one of the eight member universities of VNU-HCM.

The University of Science, VNU-HCM was established by Decision 1236/GDĐT of the Ministry of Education and Training dated March 30, 1996, based on the separation from the University of Ho Chi Minh City to join VNU-HCM.

The university currently has two campuses:

One campus is located within the VNU-HCM Urban Area, Dong Hoa Ward, Ho Chi Minh City (with an area of ​​32 hectares). This is the main campus serving the regular undergraduate training program. Students in the regular program (except for Artificial Intelligence) will study here for all four years.

One campus, located at 227 Nguyen Van Cu Street, Cho Quan Ward, Ho Chi Minh City (with an area of ​​approximately 1.1 hectares), primarily serves postgraduate and undergraduate programs (English Enhancement, Advanced), as well as distance learning programs.

In 2025, the University of Science, VNU-HCM will enroll students in 39 majors/groups of majors across 8 fields. You can find detailed information about the majors/groups of majors here.

The Competency Assessment Exam (ĐGNL) of the National University of Ho Chi Minh City has been held since 2018, aiming to select candidates with abilities suitable for its comprehensive training orientation.

The ĐGNL exam aims to assess core competencies necessary for university-level education, including: language use, logical thinking, data processing, and problem-solving. Thanks to its ability to relatively comprehensively reflect the candidate’s abilities, the exam results are now used by many higher education institutions in admissions, contributing to improving the quality of incoming students.

The University of Science, VNU-HCM does not require candidates to have an English language certificate for admission.

If you do not have an English language certificate (meeting the required output standard), upon admission, you will take an English entrance exam to assess your current level and will be placed in a class that best suits you. In addition, you can also register for English courses (1, 2, 3, 4) to reinforce your knowledge and keep up with the curriculum of your major.

When registering your preferences, you will register the code of the respective group of majors (for example: Computer Science and Information Technology; Geology, Land Economics; Data Science, Statistics; Physics, Electronic and Informatics Technology, Semiconductor Technology).

After receiving the acceptance notification and confirming your enrollment in the chosen group of majors, depending on the Faculty’s requirements and your preferences, you will be able to register for the following majors.
